While serving as a missionary I was asked to sing Come Thou Fount in church with a few other people. In an effort to bring the correct emotion to the words we were singing I was encouraged to think of a time when I felt the pain of sin and distancing myself from God. A time when I felt a need to plead with our Heavenly Father to forgive me of my short comings and help me adjust my course. ‘Prone to wander, LORD I FEEL IT. Prone to leave the God I love.’I reflect back on that moment often, and those words enter my mind each time I feel God gently nudging me back to center. As humans we are prone to wander, and we FEEL IT. The experience of recognizing our weaknesses and feeling distant from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ can feel very raw.
